Description

“St. Rostislav” is a mini icon of the holy prince: the saint in a red cloak over a blue robe. An upright image, 100×150 mm.

What the picture shows

The prince is shown half-length, with a fair beard and a low crown set with red and white beads. His cloak is red, covered with a fine dark pattern that makes the cloth look like figured brocade; it parts at the sides to reveal a dense blue robe beneath. In his hands he holds a slim cross on a long shaft, and a strand of pearls sits at his collar. The halo is a broad ring of amber beads, and the golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche sits below, flanked by beaded rosettes.
