“St. Paul” is an apostle with a high forehead and a long grey beard, a rolled scroll in his hand. Green and red, as this iconography requires.

What the picture shows

The apostle is shown to the waist, with a high bald forehead and a long grey beard. A green tunic covers his shoulders and left arm, and a wide red cloak worked in dense rows lies over it. His left hand holds a pale rolled scroll, his right is raised. The halo is a ring of amber beads and the ground is golden rays with red dots at the top. The canvas is edged with a narrow gold band with red accents at the corners; a rectangular name plaque takes up the lower part. The clothing, the ring of the halo and the border are beaded; the face, the hands and the gold ground are left to the print.
