Description

“St. Orest” is a mini icon of the martyr: a young saint in a turquoise cloak with a gold cross. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm, and the most colourful in this part of the series.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown young and beardless, with curly chestnut hair. His cloak is a bright turquoise thrown over the shoulder in large folds; beneath it is a dark breastplate woven from bronze, red and white beads in a fine pattern like scaled armour. Below that is a lilac-violet robe. In his right hand he holds a slim gold cross, his left held out to the side, palm outward. The halo is a broad ring of amber beads, and the rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche runs below.
