“St. Maximus” is a warrior martyr with a spear, in a blue cloak over golden armour. The strongest diagonal in the batch.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, with a fair beard and wavy hair. A blue cloak falls from his shoulders and covers his right arm, with golden-ochre armour worked in fine beads in a scale pattern beneath. A slender spear runs diagonally across the whole figure, held in both hands. The halo is a ring of amber beads and the ground is golden rays. A plaque in a gold frame finishes the image at the bottom, and the corners on either side are filled with fine red-and-gold ornament. Beads take the cloak, the armour, the halo and the border, while the face and hands stay printed on the canvas, and the radiance behind is print too.
