Description

“St. Matthew” is a mini icon of the apostle and evangelist with a book in his hands. One of the most economical kits in the batch: only eight bead colours.

What the picture shows

The apostle is shown as a grey-haired man with a short beard and a high forehead. His dress is built on two large fields of colour: a red tunic and a mint-turquoise himation thrown over the shoulder in deep folds. In his left hand he holds a book in a red binding with a square gold inset, his right raised in the gesture of speech. The halo is gathered from several rings of amber beads. The golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas, so both fields of colour stand clearly above the ground. A three-line cartouche runs below, the second name given in brackets.
