Description

“St. Martha” is a mini icon of the righteous saint in blue, holding a small vessel. The finished piece is 100×150 mm, upright in format.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown half-length. A pale blue-grey veil covers her head, worked in large light beads that lie in rows like folds of cloth. The dress is built on two blues: a dense cobalt on the left and a lighter, almost turquoise tone on the right. A narrow olive-gold panel with fine pattern sits on her chest. In her hands she holds a small round gold vessel. The halo is a dense ring of amber beads, and the yellow rays behind the figure stay as print on the canvas, showing through between the rows of stitching. A three-line cartouche runs below, framed at the corners by red and gold rosettes.
