Description

“St. Mark” is a mini icon of the apostle and evangelist with an open scroll in his hands. An upright image of 100×150 mm for a home icon corner or a bookshelf.

What the picture shows

The apostle is shown as a grey-haired man with a short beard and a high forehead. His outer cloak is a deep, almost cherry red, and the tunic beneath is a warm amber-orange; these two fields carry the whole composition. In his right hand he holds a thin reed pen, in his left an open scroll bearing the opening words of the Gospel. The halo is gathered from several rings of amber and gold beads. The rays behind stay as print on the art canvas: beads fill the figure, the halo, the scroll and the border strip along the edge. A three-line cartouche runs below.
