Description

“St. Lydia” is a martyr in a white pearl veil with a cross on a shaft. Red with violet.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, her head slightly turned. The veil is worked in white beads laid in dense rows that give the look of pearl cloth. The outer robe is red, with a violet band of the undergarment showing on the left. Her right hand holds a dark cross on a long slim shaft that runs vertically through the whole image. The halo is amber and the ground is golden rays. A gold border with square rosettes at the corners runs along the edge of the canvas, and a plaque with the saint's name lies at the bottom. The clothing, the halo and the border are beaded; the face, the hands and the golden rays stay printed on the canvas.
