Description

“St.Leo” is a mini icon of St Leo the Great, pope of Rome. Upright format, 100×150 mm; the vestments are the most colourful in this part of the series.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown half-length, with a fair beard and a high forehead. His phelonion is lilac-violet, covered with a fine pale pattern like embroidery; over it lies a broad omophorion of pearl-pink beads with green and gold flecks. His right hand is folded in blessing, his left holds a Gospel in a red binding set with green and gold stones. The halo is gathered from amber rings, and the golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche sits below, flanked by rosettes on gold.
