What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, with a high forehead and a short grey beard. A wide white omophorion worked in pale beads and marked with dark crosses lies across his shoulders. A blue-and-gold part of the vestment shows on the left. His right hand is raised in blessing, his left steadies a book at his chest. The halo is a ring of amber beads and the ground is golden rays running from his head to the edges. A pale name plaque closes the composition at the bottom between two ornamental squares, and a narrow gold border runs round the edge. The vestments, the halo and the border are beaded; the face, the hands and the golden rays stay printed on the canvas.
