Description

“St. Irene” is a great martyr in deep red with a string of white pearls. The image is almost monochrome, held in warm red.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown frontally, her gaze level and calm. The veil and outer robe are worked in deep red beads in several tones, so the cloth reads as folds. A narrow line of white pearl beads runs down the centre — the only light accent in the lower half. Her right hand is raised to her chest. The halo gathers amber and dark beads, and golden rays with red dots along the top stand behind it. The robes, the halo and the plaque frame are beaded, while the face and the hand stay printed, as does the gold ground.
