Description

“St. Ioanna” is a mini icon of the myrrh-bearer. One image for three names: the cartouche adds Zhanna and Yana beneath the main inscription. Format 100×150 mm.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown half-length in a red maphorion with a blue tunic beneath. The headdress is not one flat field but a patterned band of white, pale blue and red beads that frames the face and runs on into a wide collar. Her right hand is raised in blessing, her left holds a small vessel of myrrh — the sign by which a myrrh-bearer is recognised. The halo is gathered from amber and dark brown rings. The rays behind the figure are printed and stay visible through the stitching. Below, the cartouche carries the two extra names in brackets on its third line.
