Description

“St.Ignatius” is a mini icon of the hieromartyr in a terracotta phelonion. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm; the figure fills almost the whole field.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown elderly, with a high forehead and a long grey beard. His phelonion is a warm terracotta set in small orange and copper beads, with a green band running along the foot of the robe. Over it lies a white and blue omophorion with a clear geometric pattern. With both hands he holds a Gospel before his chest, its cover lettered in red and green beads. The halo is gathered from amber rings, and the rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche sits below, flanked by rosettes on gold.
