Description

“St. Gennady” is a monk in a red mantle over a green cassock. Red with green — the warmest pair in the batch.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, with a long grey beard and dark hair brushed back. A red mantle falls from his shoulders in wide folds, with a green cassock worked in beads of two tones beneath it. His right hand is raised to his chest, his left holds a pale rolled scroll. The halo is a ring of amber beads and the ground is golden rays. A plaque in a gold frame finishes the image at the bottom, and the corners on either side are filled with fine red-and-gold ornament. Beads cover the clothing, the halo and the border, while the face and hands stay printed on the canvas; most of the golden radiance also stays print.
