Description

“St. Euphrosyne” is a mini icon of the princess: the saint in a silver veil and violet robe. An upright image, 100×150 mm.

What the picture shows

A silver-white veil covers the saint’s head, gathered from strands of pearls that fall over her shoulders in even lengths; a red stone in a setting sits above her brow. A broad amber-gold cape with green and red inserts lies across her shoulders, like embroidered velvet. Below is a violet robe in which lighter and darker beads are laid in wavy bands. In her hands she holds a slim gold cross. The halo is gathered from amber rings, and the rays behind stay as print on the canvas. A three-line cartouche runs below, flanked by beaded rosettes, and a narrow gold strip runs around the edge of the image.
