Description

“St. Edward” is a mini icon of the holy king and passion-bearer: a young saint in a gold crown. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm.

What the picture shows

The king is shown young and beardless, with fair hair to his shoulders. His crown is tall, set with white, green and red stones along the band and the points. His cloak is a dense red laid in even rows, and beneath it is a blue robe in which the beads run in diagonal bands. In his left hand he holds a golden sceptre, his right rests calmly on his chest; pearl cuffs show at his wrists. The halo is gathered from amber rings, and the golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche runs below, with beaded rosettes on gold in the corners.
