Description

“St. David” is a mini icon of the prophet and king in his crown. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm; the figure fills almost the whole field.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown in three-quarter view with his head inclined. A gold crown set with red and green stones sits on his hair, worked in small beads. A red cloak is thrown over his shoulder, and beneath it is a deep blue robe in which the beads are laid in even diagonal rows. His right palm rests on his chest, while his left holds a strand of white pearl beads that falls downward. The halo is a broad ring of amber beads. The golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas; beads cover the figure, the crown, the halo and the border. A two-line cartouche runs below.
