Description

“St. Bogdan” is a mini icon of the martyr, a half-length portrait of a young man against a golden glow. At 100×150 mm the image fits easily on a bookshelf.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown young, with fair shoulder-length hair and a short beard. He wears a dark red cloak over a green tunic with a black cross panel on the chest. His right hand is raised in blessing, his left holds a slim gold cross, the sign of martyrdom. The halo is gathered from amber and gold beads, while the rays behind him stay as print on the canvas and show between the rows of stitching. Beads cover the figure, the halo and the outer border strip; below sits a cartouche with the inscription and red-and-gold rosettes in the corners. The colour pairing is simple and clear: red against green.
