Description

“St.Athanasius” is a mini icon of the bishop in a lilac phelonion. Format 100×150 mm: a small name icon for a shelf or a home icon corner, stitched over a few evenings.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown as an elderly man with a high forehead and a long white beard falling to his chest. His phelonion is lilac-violet, laid in even diagonal rows, and over it lies a broad omophorion of pearl-white beads marked with dark crosses. In his left hand he holds a Gospel in a binding set with red, blue and gold stones, his right folded in blessing. The halo is gathered from amber rings, while the golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche sits below, flanked by beaded rosettes on gold.
