Description

“St. Ariadne” is a mini icon of the martyr in green with a pearl headdress. An upright image of 100×150 mm, often stitched as a gift for someone of that name.

What the picture shows

A tall pearl headdress edged with turquoise beads covers the saint’s head, and long pendants of the same turquoise hang from it at her temples. A broad white collar lies over her shoulders, with a gold clasp set with an amber stone at her neck. Her robe is a dense green in which darker beads are laid so that the folds read across it; a red band runs down the front. Her right hand is raised in blessing. The halo is gathered from amber rings, and the rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche sits below.
