Description

“St. Anfisa” is a mini icon of the martyr: a young woman with loose hair and a gold cross in her hand. An upright image, 100×150 mm.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown facing forward, with long chestnut hair falling over her shoulders across a white veil. The veil is worked in large pearl-white beads with blue shadows and reads as a light frame around her face. Her cloak is a dense red, and a blue tunic shows beneath it at the foot. In her right hand she holds a gold cross on a slim shaft, her left steadying it from below. The halo is gathered from amber and red beads in several rings, and the rays behind the figure stay as print on the canvas. A two-line cartouche sits below, and a narrow beaded strip with corner rosettes runs around the edge.
