Description

“St. Alevtina” is a mini icon of the martyr: the saint in red with a pale cape over her shoulders. An upright image of 100×150 mm, often stitched as a gift for someone of that name.

What the picture shows

A pearl veil covers the saint’s head, with even strands of pale beads falling from it over her shoulders. A broad cape covers her shoulders and chest, set in white and yellow beads in a fine chequer with amber inserts — this is what holds the centre of the composition. Below is a dense red robe with darker folds, and a green band shows at one side. Her hands are folded in front, a small object between the fingers. The halo is gathered from amber rings, while the golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche and corner rosettes sit below.
