Description

“Owl – 2” is an owl in a long red cap and a green coat standing in the snow.

What the picture shows

The bird is dressed for winter: a long red cap with a pompom hanging to one side, a green knitted coat with buttons, red boots in the snow. Red beads run over the cap, the pompom and the boots, green ones cover the whole coat and make it look genuinely knitted. Behind are a pale blue sky, dark fir trees and white snow, all left as print on the canvas. The owl looks straight at you with round amber eyes. The piece takes 129 beads, the fewest in this series. The background is not stitched: it is printed on the canvas and shows between the beads, so the picture is built on the play of print against raised beadwork. The piece is small and easy to carry along or save for an evening when you want to make something by hand.
