“Once was a cat” is a pink cat with a curled tail on a flowery ground.

What the picture shows

The cat sits in profile with its back stretched and its tail curled into a spiral on the right. Pink beads outline the head, ears, back and paws, while blue beads form flower rosettes on its chest, its side, its tail and on the stems at either side. The face is drawn finely, with long whiskers and narrow eyes. The ground is pink with painted blue flowers, butterflies and swirls, left as print. A decorative piece, close to naive painting. 157 beads in two colours. The background is not stitched: it is printed on the canvas and shows between the beads, so the picture is built on the play of print against raised beadwork. The piece is small and easy to carry along or save for an evening when you want to make something by hand.
