Description

“Master of the yard” is a folk-style rooster drawn in red and white on a grey ground.

What the picture shows

The bird stands in profile with its head held high and a large comb, its tail curving up in a long arc. Red beads outline the whole silhouette — comb, beak, breast, feet and every tail feather — while white pearl beads fill the belly, the wing and the centres of the feathers. Inside the drawing a fine red pattern on white shows through, close to Petrykivka painting. The ground is an even grey with a pale floral pattern below, left as print. 161 beads in two colours. The canvas is not filled edge to edge — the beads follow the main lines and the rest stays printed, which is why the piece reads as a drawing rather than a solid beaded carpet. Preciosa beads are calibrated and even in size, so the rows come out straight without sorting them first.
