Description

Woodpecker shows a bird in a green cap and a red scarf settled on a tree trunk while snow falls around him. He looks businesslike, as if the day’s work is already done.

What the picture shows

The black wing and tail feathers are worked in matt black beads, long rows following each strand. The chest and scarf are red, a golden buckle sits on the belt, and the cap is green with a dark trim. The long beak is outlined in gold and black. The background — blue sky and a trunk with warm yellow-brown bark — stays printed on the canvas, scattered with snowflakes of pale blue and white beads and single beads between them. The feet and the branch also stay printed; the beads only pick out the claws. The ten colours are used plainly: black and red carry the bird, blue and white the snow, gold goes to the small details.
