Description

“White flower” is a large white-and-blue peony with small red sprays in a glass vase, set on a faded vintage ground.

What the picture shows

The main bloom takes up almost half the piece: the petals are worked in pearl, blue and pink beads, the centre in warm ochre. Beside it sit a smaller half-open bud and a few white flowers, with sprigs of red-orange berries and golden bead dots between them. Leaves and stems are bright green, and the little vase below is only lightly outlined in pale beads. The background stays as printing: a grey-beige collage of old paper, a damask pattern and the French words “pivoine blanche” and “Fantaisie du Jardin”. The beads do not cover the surface — they carry the flowers and the accents, while the ground is left soft and matt so the bouquet comes forward. Small gold beads are scattered unevenly between the berries and read as flecks of light.
