Description

“The sun and the moon” is a decorative pair of faces: a yellow crescent against a sun disc with patterned rays.

What the picture shows

The moon is shown in profile with a closed eye and dark lashes, overlapping a violet circle strewn with orange stars; a black nightcap shows at its side. The sun's rays spread out in broad wedges, each with its own pattern — pink zigzags, pale blue spirals, yellow diamonds, orange dots. A black border is scattered with coloured stars. There are only five bead colours: they outline the moon, the stars, the rim of the disc and the border, while the printed pattern itself stays open on the canvas — the whole design lives on that contrast. The outline of the moon is a double row of red beads, and it is that line which separates the yellow crescent from the violet circle. The little stars on the circle are beaded as rings of orange, each set where the print puts it.
