Description

The pink Moon shows a southern street of whitewashed houses at dusk, warm light in the windows and a thin crescent in a lilac sky.

What the picture shows

The walls and roofs are worked in white, pearl and grey beads, long rows following the lines of the stonework, with the tiles picked out in dark red and burgundy. The windows are laid out in orange and amber, the warmest note in the piece. The round tree by the wall is made of dense circles of green and emerald beads, the shrubs with red flowers in green with red dots. Steps, railings and lamps are outlined in black and white beads, the jugs by the wall in amber. The lilac sky with its moon and the cobbles stay printed: the beads carry the architecture while the canvas gives the colour. Eleven colours in a restrained evening range. The small red flowers on the railings are set one bead at a time.
