Description

“Table for two” is an evening on a terrace: a couple stands beside a laid table, with a colourful town rising behind them.

What the picture shows

The man and woman hold each other in the middle of the picture; next to them a round table under a white cloth carries wine and glasses, flanked by two black wrought-iron chairs. Behind rise a blue-violet house and a red building with arched windows, then more roofs, round green trees hung with red berries, and a clipped tree in a pot. A white crescent and small stars hang in the deep blue sky. Beads carry the figures, the furniture, the windows, the roofs and the balustrade; the pale paving and part of the sky stay as print on the canvas. The window frames are beaded in white and so glow against the red and blue walls. The tablecloth is filled solid, while each glass is marked with only a few beads — a small detail, but a visible one.
