Description

“Sweetly” shows a large bumblebee framed by orange flowers on a dark turquoise hexagon.

What the picture shows

The bumblebee's body is worked in bands of black and yellow beads, the abdomen rounded, the wings translucent blue with pearl beads along the veins. It sits in the middle of a dark hexagon outlined in small beads. Orange and coral flowers with yellow centres, green leaves and clusters of red berries are scattered around it. Beyond the hexagon the yellow-and-white watercolour ground with its soft blots stays printed: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface, so the contrast between the dense centre and the light field reads at once. The wings are beaded more sparsely than the body — transparent beads follow the veins in single lines and the print shows through, so they really do look translucent. The flowers along the edge are worked in dense clusters of five or six beads.
