Description

“Summer heart” is a large red heart with a butterfly inside it, drawn in a folk ornamental manner.

What the picture shows

The heart sits in the centre, outlined in red beading with pink and white bands inside. A symmetrical butterfly opens its wings within it: the wings are worked in turquoise, pale blue and white with orange and red dots, the body in deep blue. The word Love is picked out in small letters above it. Ornamental flowers and buds on thin stems radiate around the heart, along with green leaves veined in yellow and small scattered petals — all of it symmetrical, like painted folk decoration. The mottled pale blue ground stays as printing. The ornament is built on repetition: the same petals and leaves come back on both sides, which makes the chart easy to read and hard to lose your place in.
