Description

Summer day shows a ginger kitten with a pink bow squinting in the sun, a smiling duckling beside him and a red-roofed cottage in the green garden behind.

What the picture shows

The most striking part is the kitten’s long whiskers and the stripes of his coat, laid out in black beads. The bow is pink and red, the roof red with golden and pearl rows on the shutters, the walls in pale beads. Bushes and grass are marked with green stitches of varying length, the fence and gate with brown and gold. Two little frogs sit in the grass, outlined in green. The faces of the kitten and the duckling, the clouded sky and the distant trees stay printed on the canvas — the beads run in lines and outlines rather than as a solid carpet. Eleven colours split between the warm yard and the cooler sky.
