Description

“Still life with a clock” is assembled from old things: hydrangeas in a tall vase, a stack of books, an alarm clock and a mantel clock.

What the picture shows

A golden footed vase with curved handles stands on the left, holding pink hydrangea heads and green leaves. A dark mantel clock with its dial rises on the right, with a pile of blue books and a small bell alarm clock in front of it. Pink roses lie on a white saucer at the lower right. The pale ground carries printed handwriting and a monogram; it stays as print on the canvas, while beads cover the flowers, the vase, the books and both clocks. The hydrangea heads are built from tiny flowers of four beads each, which makes them look downy. The vase is beaded in gold with darker rows along its curves — that is how the shine of the metal is rendered.
