Description

Spices – 1 lines up an oil bottle, a glass carafe, a string of garlic, a lemon and a red chilli on a shelf. A warm-toned Mediterranean still life.

What the picture shows

The bottle on the left is outlined in orange and yellow, its label beaded in white. The carafe in the centre is worked in turquoise and green along the neck and body. The string of garlic above is built from white and pearl beads with amber dots, so the individual bulbs read clearly. The lemon is yellow and gold, the chilli red, the leaves green. The shelf below carries a row of diamonds in beige and brown beads. The Tuscan landscape behind stays as print. The eleven colours are spent carefully: most go into the foreground objects, while the large Tuscan view behind is left without a single bead.
