Description

“Snow sparkles” shows a large openwork snowflake on deep blue canvas.

What the picture shows

The snowflake is symmetrical: six rays in golden, ochre and white beads, with small twigs and dots between them. At the centre sits a rosette of printed pattern ringed by rows of blue, orange and green beads that give it a coloured glint. The rays are densely beaded, so the snowflake looks embossed. The blue canvas around stays clear: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface, and the deep blue field works here like a night sky. The rays are beaded symmetrically, taken in turn from four sides so the snowflake does not drift out of true — the main difficulty of the piece. The central rosette stays mostly printed, with beads only on its rings, which makes the middle look deeper than the rays. Ochre and gold beads along the edges of the rays give a warm glint against the cold blue field.
