Description

“Snail” is a smiling snail with a pink and lilac shell among green leaves.

What the picture shows

The snail faces the viewer: the body is worked in cream and peach beads with warmer shadows underneath, the large eyes have blue lids and black pupils, and below them a brown line draws a smiling mouth. The shell spirals in pink, raspberry and greyish lilac beads. Small flowers are scattered around — pink ones with white petal tips and dark red ones with white centres. The green ivy leaves and the light green ground are printed on the canvas; only the snail and the flowers are beaded, which gives the piece two distinct layers of texture. The shell is beaded in a spiral from the centre outward, each turn a little darker than the last. The horns are thin, in cream beads, with lighter tips. Each flower takes five or six beads, so they add colour quickly. The printed leaves around stay soft and slightly blurred, which makes the beading look even more raised against them.
