Description

Skoda-1102 shows a red open-top car pulled up in front of an old château. The mood is unhurried, almost holiday-like.

What the picture shows

The body is worked in several reds — cherry, scarlet, flame — with orange and gold veins running along the bonnet. White and silver beads pick out the grille, headlamps and mirrors; the wheels are black with a gold rim and a silver centre. The windscreen is left clear, its frame simply outlined in beads. The château behind, with its tower, sharp spires and grey roof, is painted straight onto the canvas in watercolour: the beads stay on the car and the hazy background remains print. Most of the ten colours go into the body: the red is not a single tone but several, and that is what makes the paintwork look lacquered.
