Description

“Shabby chic” shows two pink flowers on a pale quilted ground, kept to the palette the style is known for.

What the picture shows

Both blooms open straight towards the viewer: the petals are worked in pink and pale pink beads with white edges, the centres in yellow and gold. Stems and narrow leaves are filled with two shades of green, with small buds hanging at the side. The ground falls into two parts: a pale green lattice of diamonds with beads at the crossings on the left and top, and a light field with faint printed sprigs on the right. A band along the bottom carries Latin and English flower names and a pink bloom on black. These words and the lattice stay as printing — the beads work on the flowers themselves and on the border. There is less beading here than printing, and that is deliberate: the quilted ground is meant to stay a matt background rather than compete with the flowers.
