Description

“Sea outside the window” shows a bunch of red flowers on a windowsill, with a green valley and a strip of sea beyond.

What the picture shows

On the left, a full branching arrangement of small red, crimson and pink flowers with dark green leaves stands in a turquoise vase — this is the most densely beaded part. The vase is rendered in greenish translucent beads, and below it a white lace cloth is laid out in pearl and gold. A pale curtain hangs at the left edge, also picked out with rows of beads. To the right the window stands open: cypresses, tiled roofs on the hillside, the blue sea in the distance and a cloudy sky all stay as watercolour printing. On the table sit a glass, a cup of coffee on a saucer and an open book. The finest details — the petals and the knots of the lace — are set as single beads, and they are what catch the light most.
