Description

Rolls-Royce puts a bright green vintage car on a wet city street, its paintwork glowing against the grey facades.

What the picture shows

The body, bonnet and wings are worked in several greens — grass, emerald, deep bottle — with the roof and wheel arches darkened in black. Silver and pearl beads pick out the radiator grille, the headlamps and the rim of the spare wheel, while the tyres are black with a white spoke pattern. Short amber and copper rows run across the asphalt below: lamplight caught in the puddles. The buildings, passers-by and shop signs stay as watercolour print — the beads cover the car and the reflections, and the background is left open. Ten colours give the green body real depth, from the light upper panels to the dark lower ones, with room for the silver of the chrome in between.
