Description

“Pink flamingos” rests on soft pink and a wavy background: two birds among stylised leaves.

What the picture shows

The birds stand side by side, long necks curving; their plumage is laid in pink and white beads in fine strands that read like real down. Tall leaves rise around them — green, turquoise, blue — beaded in rows along the veins. The ground is built from broad wavy bands of green, yellow, pale blue and lilac; it stays as print on the canvas, and that is exactly why the stitched flamingos come forward so clearly. Small beaded drops along the bottom pick up the colour of the birds. The birds' necks are a single row of beads, which keeps the line thin and precise, while the bodies are filled more densely over several rows. The veins of the leaves are picked out in a darker bead than the leaves themselves.
