Description

Petricovs painting shows a fanciful rooster with a lavish tail in the Petrykivka folk style, with flowers and leaves around it on a white ground.

What the picture shows

The bird’s body is worked in blue, pale blue and emerald beads, with a separate row for every feather. The tail is laid out in lilac, violet, pink, red and yellow: long curved strands fan out and take up half the picture. The comb and wattles are marked in red. The flowers around are made as rosettes of lilac, orange and green beads with brown centres, the leaves outlined in green. The white ground and the fine painted stems stay without beads — in Petrykivka painting the empty ground is part of the drawing. Thirteen colours give a full rainbow range, and the piece still does not look overloaded. The bird’s feet are marked with a few green beads, and the small buds at the side in orange.
