What the picture shows

The wing feathers are long rows of golden, brown and beige beads, and they carry the whole piece. The cap is worked in red and white stripes with a red trim along the edge, the glasses marked out in black beads. The orange book is outlined in red, the candle in its holder in white and gold, while the flame itself stays painted. The snowflakes on the background are rosettes of white and pale blue beads, and the branch under her feet is picked out in light rows. The owl’s striped chest and the beige background remain full-colour print on the canvas — the beads add shine where it is needed. Nine colours keep to a warm range, with only the snow cold. The stripes on the cap go in even rows, which makes them a convenient place to start.
