Description

No wind holds a sailing boat motionless on flat water against a setting sun. No breeze, no swell — just colour.

What the picture shows

The sky is worked in horizontal rows of orange, red, amber, yellow and lilac beads, each row reading as its own band of cloud. The sun’s disc is left as unbeaded print, while the path it throws across the water is set in white and milky beads. The hull and masts are filled with black, the sail with turquoise and blue and a few red accents. Between the rows the painted ground still shows through — and that is what gives the piece its depth, because the beads are not laid solid. Eleven colours are needed for the sky alone: each band of cloud takes its own shade, and together they carry the shift from yellow to lilac.
