Description

“Neon elephant” sets a patterned elephant against an orange sun, in the spirit of an Indian festival of colour.

What the picture shows

The animal stands in profile and fills most of the picture: a blue and turquoise body covered with white dots, pink and yellow bands and small flowers, coloured bracelets on its legs and a patterned cloth on its back. An orange sun rises behind it with long rays, and a slender tree with a bird on a branch stands to the left. The ground shifts from pale blue into orange and stays printed on the canvas. Beads carry the elephant, the sun, the tree and the light wavy lines running along the bottom. The patterns on the elephant's body are beaded as small motifs — dots, stripes, little flowers — laid over the blue fill and almost never repeating. The sun's rays are set in even rows of orange beads.
