Description

“Multicolored iris” is an open bloom in fiery shades against a cool turquoise-blue ground.

What the picture shows

The iris fills almost the whole field: the petals are worked in orange, yellow, red and pink beads with violet shadows at the base, their edges long and curling. A second bud in the same colours shows on the left, with dark green leaves below. The ground is a fluid abstraction of turquoise, emerald and blue, scattered with beaded rings and discs — yellow at the top left, red on the right, small white and pale blue dots at the foot. The rings depict nothing in particular; they work as rhythm and support the warm-against-cold contrast. The petals are worked in long rows following their wavy edge, so the flower looks alive, while the ground is beaded more sparsely, in short patches of colour.
