Description

“Luck bird” places a blue peacock with a long tail inside a flowering, vaguely eastern ornament.

What the picture shows

The bird is shown in profile — deep blue neck, a small crest, a yellow beak — and below it the tail opens into turquoise and green eyes laid out in rows of beads. On the left, large flowers of pink, blue and yellow petals overlap one another; on the right, a yellow bloom and curving stems. A yellow sun shines in the top left corner, and a dotted line of pink beads marks out the frame. The pale blue ground with its printed scrolls is not beaded — the stitching holds the drawing, the print gives it air. The eyes of the tail are beaded as small rings of four or five beads, and it is these that make the tail look three-dimensional. The petals of the large flowers on the left are built from three colours laid over one another in layers.
