Description

“Loving hearts” shows two hearts set one inside the other among scrolls and small flowers.

What the picture shows

The front heart is pink with a red outline and a scatter of little blooms inside; a second, darker heart edged in red shows behind it. Fine spirals and tendrils curl around them, and red five-petalled flowers and small dots are strewn above and below. There are only five bead colours — pink, red, white and two shades of crimson — and the piece lives on the play between those close tones. The red and pink printed ground stays open: beads cover only the hearts, the scrolls and the flowers. The outlines of both hearts are a continuous row of beads, while inside only scattered little flowers are stitched, so the fill is open and the work goes quickly. The spirals are laid one bead at a time along the printed line.
