Description

“Koi carp” is a pair of koi in a turquoise circle of water among cherry petals.

What the picture shows

A turquoise circle is laid out on a white ground to stand for water. Two fish swim inside it: a white one with red patches and a pink one with a darker back; their tails and fins are loose, their bodies curved one behind the other. Pink petals fall between them, and turquoise bubbles and rings are scattered inside the circle and beyond it. The beads cover the fish, the petals, the bubbles and the circle itself, while the white ground around stays printed — and that is what makes the composition read like a round window. The cherry petals are small, two or three beads each, and some of them already lie outside the turquoise circle. The scales are marked by lighter beads along each back.
